Mark Andrew
Mark Andrew is a multidisciplinary visual artist working in New York and the Midwest. His art practice blurs the line between imagination and reality by combining the mediums of sculpture, video art, and installation.
Working in a range of mediums helps to create an overarching dialogue within the body of work: a visual narrative that focuses heavily on opposites and the complexities of the human condition.
Andrew’s inspirations come from various influences, including the vastness of the Midwest plains, brutalism, pop culture, and philosophical theories like Accelerationism.
For the past six years, Andrew’s work has revolved around glorifying material objects that others once owned. A process I referred to as “working with ghosts.” The “working” of these objects was a reinvention of everyday personal items like chairs, music boxes, and porcelain figurines. These objects were then reworked by a coating of thick matte pigment, removing the objects of their detail and accentuating their formal qualities. These objects are then placed strategically to enhance or disguise their form.
Mark Andrew has worked commercially with companies like 20th Century and Saddle Creek Records, showcasing his work in New York, Hamptons, NY, Chicago, IL, Tampa, FL, and Omaha, NE.
